A pretty dicy topic to write about, you know? I have family that believe with every fiber of their souls in the Word of God, which does not allow for Evolution. I have friends that believe with every fiber of their beings in the non-existence of God, which only allows for Evolution.
As for me? I'm somewhere in the middle. I have a very personal, and very real relationship with God, yet do not deny the existence of things which, to me, are incontrovertible proof of Evolution. And believing in both at the same time doesn't bother me; on the contrary, it inspires me even more than either would on its own.
You see, there are mysteries which Science will never be able to measure, or to solve. There's no way to discover why the galaxies are moving away from each other, yet we know that they are. There's no way to discover why humans feel an intense ache in their chest after a breakup, yet we know that we do. There's no way to discover why life sprung out of a chemical soup, yet we know that it did. There's no way to discover why we each live separate lives, yet we know that we do.
There's a pattern to all these things that Science can't solve: There's no way to discover why. And that's where God comes in.
I believe that God has a very real, yet unreal, hand in what goes on in our universe. This may seem contradictory, and it is meant to. Because God only works in energy (and not the kind of energy measured in Science), He has only subtle effects on our reality. He can bring people closer together or further apart, but can't make them move. He can make certain particles bond with other particles, but can't give them form. He can inject so much energy into one point that it has no choice but to explode into a universe, but can't shape what it turns into. He can inject energy into mass that makes it actually bend the fabric of spacetime, but can't make it stop.
I'll go so far as to say that God IS this energy - call it Love, Gravity, or Life itself, it's all one and the same, and governs why the Universe is the way it is. Science can deal with the mechanics of it, but God gives it all a Reason.
